In an ideal world, we'd all be in regular contact with one another, thru letters, emails, phone calls and exchanges of pictures. In reality, though, most of us find this hard to do, especially with many individuals. So, in order to reach out to everyone (without the redundancy or the guilt of overlooking someone), I offer this photo journal, where you may share in our lives at your leisure. Think of starting your own blog, so we can see what you are up to as well. Until next time, malika

October 2005

October was a pretty busy month. The weather got a little cooler, the days a little shorter. Man, the year is practically over.

Grift was still in Louisiana helping with the hurricane cleanup, so I took the kids to Busch Garden again. They started putting all the Halloween stuff out, so there were tons of pirate skeletons all over the park.

DSC09961.JPG
Sarah and Tyree took pictures with an Anheuser Busch clydesdale horse. Sarah didn't want to be this close to it, but Tyree didn't mind at all.

DSC09969.JPG
The kids went on almost all the kiddie rides. This was a cute little dragon water ride.

DSC00027.JPG
There were so many workers in Halloween attire throughout the park. This one lady's job was to sit on a bench in the dark just being creepy.

Basically, this is what Tyree was up to most of this game.

This was picture day for the soccer teams on Fort Lee. We didn't want to spend 30 to 50 dollars on a package that may or may not turn our great, so I just stood behind the photographer and took our own pictures. Here are the 4-6 year old Fort Lee Comets.

Sarah Malina. Look closely. She doesn't know that she's giving the bird, but she certainly was.

5th fall soccer game. Tyree kicking the ball.

DSC00726.JPG
The kids would sometimes start kicking the ball in the wrong direction, so they had to be reminded often. In the picture they were just asked which way they have to kick the ball.

On that same afternoon, the kids went to another neighbor's birthday party. This is Junior and his birthday cake.

Sarah has just kicked the ball in this one.

after the soccer game we went to Busch Gardens for the last time of this year. We really made use of out passes. This is Tyree, Mommy and Sarah before we entered the Ireland section of the park.

Sarah had her very first Kindergarten field trip. They went to Watkins Farm to pick pumicing from the pumpkin patch. I drove out there too, along with about 20 to 30 other parents. Here is her class on the hay bales.

DSC00993.JPG
This farmer told the kids stories and sang songs with them.

DSC01005.JPG
We were on a hay ride and passed by this hay catepillar in the middle of all these pumpkins.

DSC01008.JPG
After the hay ride we were dropped off at the entrance of a corn field maze.

DSC01010.JPG
Then the maze led us to this pumpkin patch, where all the children got to pick their very own pumpkin. Here's Sarah with her pumpkin.

DSC01014.JPG
We loaded up our pumpkins and then had our lunch on the grass.

DSC01023.JPG
Finally, all of the kids played in the playground until it was time for them to get back on the bus. Sarah had a great time. In fact, so did I. I can't say that I've been to a single pumpkin patch back home in Hawaii.

Tyree's Preschool had an parent and child art day, so Grift and I went and made Halloween crafts with him. This is Tyree and the spider that he made.

Mommy and Tyree made Jack-O-Lantern baskets.

Sarah's Kindergarten class had a Halloween play about pulling a pumpkin out of the pumpkin patch. They all did a great job, and afterwards they had all kinds of activities.

DSC01060.JPG
Here's the kids singing us songs. Sarah's in the pink pants, she was one of the pumpkins.

DSC01105.JPG
They got to decorate their own cup cakes.

DSC01103.JPG
Tyree got to join in the fun too. I had to pick him up early from pre-school because I wouldn't have been back on base in time after the play. His school does that $1.00 for every minute you're late thing, so he came with me. He didn't mind, he had so much fun.

DSC01095.JPG
They played a pumpkin bingo game.

DSC01085.JPG
There was a "put the eye balls in the jack-o-lantern relay game outside."

DSC01098.JPG
Tyree playing "pin the nose on the jack-o-lantern"

One of the moms read to them while they waited for their turn on one of the stations.

After the party, Mrs. Davis sent the kids home with a book as their Halloween treat.

This was Mrs. Davis' s class bulletin board display for October.

DSC01114.JPG
Here was Sarah's spot. I guess she's scared of 16 legged spiders.

Their 8th Soccer game. Sarah's goalie again and she's throwing the ball in.

DSC01176.JPG
You know, I probably yelled out "Tyree! Where's the ball!?" about 20 times a game. He clearly has the attention span of a four year old.

Going through the parent tunnel again.

I took the kids to Dana's so they could get ready for Halloween with Hayden and Kyli. Here's the kids before we left the house to trick-or-treat.

DSC01208.JPG
We were out and we came upon our other neighbor Nadia, the witch.

DSC01223.JPG
This skeleton warrior is one of our neighbors. He had his whole yard decorated to the max with Halloween garb.

DSC01227.JPG
I can't believe how cool this shot came out. Our neighbor had these great (and expensive, more than $100 a piece) light sabers, so he and Tyree battled a little bit.
